My corrective shower routine doesn’t smell good. This routine is not for aesthetics and dare I say this is not a luxurious shower. Winter can be harsh on my skin and I noticed a big change in the texture and brightness in comparison to the summer. I started doing a corrective shower around November and I think it has helped my skin retain moisture. This shower routine also offers improved blood circulation, muscle recovery, stress release, and better sleep. So let’s get into what a corrective shower is.
What is a corrective shower?
A Corrective shower is the process of using skin care items that target certain skin concerns. Things like alligator skin, calluses, Keratosis Pilaris (KP) and so many other skin issues are addressed during this routine. Products with ingredients used to solve these problems tend to be “unscented” or have a medicinal smell. Serums, balms, and scrubs are also a part of this routine.
How often should you have a corrective shower?
Consistency is key to reaping the benefits of this routine and because of the acids and active ingredients in these products, once or twice a week should do the job. This intentional shower can be more intense than your normal shower routine so to avoid stripping your skin of what it does naturally, limiting this shower would be my best advice. I have a consistent corrective shower once a week and I have seen a drastic change in my skin.
What are the steps in your corrective shower?
I’m glad you asked!
- My glycolic acid body wash is the star of the show. I talked about this body wash in my post TikTok made me buy it. This product is recommended only for PM use because of Glycolic Acid. If your sunscreen routine is not solid, I don’t suggest using this body wash in the morning. My KP is not as severe and my skin appears more moisturized after using this.
2. Naturium’s KP body scrub is good to partner with the body wash. Not too harsh on the skin with the same ingredients. This scrub has the tiniest beads that aren’t too abrasive for the skin. I suggest thoroughly rinsing your skin after using this scrub since the exfoliant is so small. This scrub leaves my skin feeling smooth and clean.
3. I use body oil daily and my corrective shower is no different. Before I dry off or even step out of the shower, I slather my body in oil. I made my body oil from 4 different oils however, osea is a great brand to look into.
4. To moisturize my body in my corrective shower routine I stick to Amlactin. With 15% lactic acid, this keeps me moisturized all night into the next day. The smell of Amlactin is awful if I’m honest. The smell is comparable to a prescribed ointment for a burn or a cough syrup. Despite the smell, Amlactin has also helped me in the appearance of my KP and we love that.
My corrective shower routine is completely different from my day-to-day in the products I use and the goal. My goal for this corrective shower is to address my skin concerns and I can confidently say by doing this once or twice a week I see a difference.
