Self-care is not just about using your favorite face mask or spraying your favorite perfume. Self-care should be listening to what your body and mind need and providing that comfort.
Outside of the luxurious bath, corrective shower, and 10-step skin care, your self-care routine should involve different aspects of your well-being.
When was the last time you called your friends? How many steps did you take today? When was the last time you re-arranged your bedroom?
In this post, I will share 5 ideas you should consider incorporating in your self-care practice.
Movement
According to the CDC, regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. Adults who spend more time in one position have increased anxiety and poor circulation.
With the resurgence of hot girl walks, never take for granted a 10-15 minute walk.
Sometimes you need some fresh air and some vitamin D on your skin and this is a great addition to your self-care routine.
Call Your Loved One’s
Responsibilities can get in the way of our relationships. Weeks can go by before remembering the last time we caught up with a friend or a parent.
Calling your loved ones and getting updates on recent events can boost your serotonin. This gives you a break from thinking about the stressors in your life.
Sending a thoughtful text can also make you feel better. I’ve received many “just thought about you, hope all is well” texts and smiled at the thought of me crossing my friend’s mind.
Refresh Your Space
This can be something small like moving your bath products around or changing the placement of your plants. Refreshing your space can give you a new feel to an ordinary space.
Start with the bathroom, move to the kitchen, and maybe finish in your bedroom. Add a picture frame to your dresser or some hooks behind the door.
Small changes are a reminder of why you fell in love with your space.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils for therapeutic benefits. Lavender, Eucalyptus, and peppermint are popular oils people use for their homes.
Drops of oil can be added to your shower, placed in a spray bottle for room spray, or added to a diffuser for a light mist. Calming essential oils can ease stress and lower anxiety.
Journaling
Journaling is one of my favorite self-care practices. My self-awareness, inner dialogue, and how I process emotions have drastically changed. I reflect on my day, my interactions with people, how productive I was, and my plans for the future. In a later post, I will share the top journal prompts I use to reflect. Adding journaling to your self-care practice is a good way to check in with yourself and a good way to ease any stressful thoughts that occur during the day.
With your luxurious baths and face washes, checking in with your mind and cleaning your space are ways we can switch up a self-care routine. Doing these routinely has improved my mood, strengthened my relationships, and lowered my stress levels.
Let me know if you try any of these suggestions!
See you in the next post~
