This pandemic has affected education in a multitude of ways and as a first-year Kindergarten teacher, I realized the emphasis needed on foundational skills like writing, counting, and grammar.
At the beginning of the school year, counting consecutively was a challenge for the majority of my students and I am proud to say that we successfully reached the double digits.
As repetitive and mundane as September through December was, I can confidently see the growth in letter and sound identification as well as their handwriting.
As we approach the first grade I constantly think about the skills needed for my babies to flourish and one skill I focused on this week was sentence structure. During our reading block, we build sentences using sentence starters and word banks.
With constant practice and repetition (a common theme in Kindergarten) of sight words and punctuation, building sentences should become easier.
Below are some free websites that I sourced for extra handwriting:

This website has a lot of beginner-friendly worksheets far as directional strokes and alphabets go.

Letter identification and sound correlation are super important when learning to read and write and this website

Handwriting is more enjoyable when you can personalize it with the names or sight words you’ve been practicing in class! This website allows you to make handwriting more fun and it also has handwriting-lined paper!

This website is equipped with letters, sentences, pictures for them to color, and Kindergarten sight words.
Last but not least! Staying in the line and understanding the direction we write in is important so I found this website with a bunch of different layouts of lined paper.
These websites helped me find busy work for the morning and also brush up on some skills that I introduced at the beginning of the school year. I have more resources that can help you in the classroom! Let me know if this helps!
See you next time.
